If you look on the ingredients list, you will find them listed as fragrances or perfume.
What you don’t know about them is that behind the word fragrances hide thousands of chemicals.
This does not mean that a single product uses thousands of chemicals. It means it’s really difficult to identify whether the product used 2-3 or tens of chemicals to create that specific fragrance.
This happens because companies are not obliged to disclose the chemicals they use, keeping it as a trade secret.
Denaturated alcohol
Facial toners use astringents to make your skin less oily.
Sometimes these astringents are alcohol-based. Toners which contain such ingredients can make your skin dry and may lead to dead skin buildup.
Acetone is another ingredient which can cause similar effects.
Alcohol-free facial toners are a better alternative.
Parabens
Parabens are the preservatives that give products their long shelf lives.
The problem with them is they have been linked to different types of cancer.
Although there is no evidence they are a cause for this condition, there is a relationship between these two. Further research is needed to clearly identify the connection between them.
How to make your own fragrance-free toner
There are two big ways to have a toner without fragrances. You can purchase it or you make it yourself.
The ingredients you will need are:
- 4 tablespoons of rose water
- 2 tablespoons of witch hazel
- 1 teaspoon of apple vinegar
- 5 drops of rosehip oil
- 5 drops of tea tree essential oil
- 5 drops of an essential oil of your preference
Mix all the ingredients and them put them in a spray bottle.
When you want to use it, just spray it on your face, after you’ve removed your makeup using the cruelty-free makeup remover.
