What does a human hormone have to do with water bottles and how did it get in there?

This term refers more to chemicals which can mimic this hormone when they come in contact with your body.

The problem with this is they can send false signals to your body or even cause hormonal imbalances.

Going for estrogen-free water bottles means staying away from chemicals which can be harmful to your health. It also comes with other benefits.

Benefits of using estrogen free water bottles

Keeps your body away from dangerous chemicals

Estrogen-free water bottles usually do not contain dangerous chemicals which mimic human hormones. These chemicals are also called endocrine disruptors.

Staying away from them can prevent certain health problems.

To help you have a better idea, here are a few chemicals which mimic estrogen:

  • BPA (bisphenol A)
  • PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls)
  • phthalates

BPA, for example, can be found in plastic products. Staying away from them or going for BPA free items can be a healthier option.

Take BPA free canned coconut milk as an example.

You may want to consider glass bottles as well. They are another alternative you can go for.

Serve their purpose well

If you think certain chemicals define the quality and resistance of a product, you may want to think again (at least in this case).

Chemical-free water bottles are a healthier option and you can use them for different purposes.

Always make sure your water bottle is chemical and estrogen-free, especially if you’re planning for multiple purposes (to deposit hot sauce or warm tea).

Plastics are known for leaching when they come in contact with warm liquids. You may want to use a different recipient of a different material for this action.

Everything you need to know about estrogen

What is estrogen?

Estrogen is a type of sex hormone which plays a key role in the development and maintenance of female characteristics.

They are responsible for:

  • breast growth
  • pubic and armpit hair growth
  • menstrual cycle regulation
  • healthy functioning of the reproductive system

Estrogen is mainly produced in the ovaries area. The levels of estrogen rise halfway through the menstrual cycle, causing the egg to be released. They slowly decrease afterward.

Estrogen is one of the most important hormones for the female, along with progesterone. This other hormone is responsible for the egg being implanted in the uterus and for maintaining pregnancies.

The estrogen family is composed of 3 main hormones:

  • Estrone (E1) – a weak form of estrogen found in women after reaching menopause
  • Estradiol (E2) – the strongest form of estrogen, a steroid which has been linked to different health problems
  • Estriol (E3) – the weakest form of estrogen, produced in great quantities during pregnancies

The link between estrogen and cancer

Studies have been done to see if there is any connection between estrogen and cancer (particularly, breast cancer).

Cancer may develop due to several reasons: it’s genetical, caused by junk food, unbalanced lifestyle, smoking, or hormones.

I want to stress out the hormone-related one.

Research has been done to determine the relationship between different hormones (including estrogen) and breast cancer.

One study measured the levels of different hormones in women who have reached menopause. They analyzed the following hormones:

  • estrone
  • estradiol
  • estrone sulfate
  • testosterone
  • androstenedione
  • DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone)
  • DHEAS
  • prolactin
  • insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1)
  • c-peptide

The results showed that when one of the hormones was at an increased level, the chances for developing breast cancer doubled.

When more hormone levels were elevated, the chances tripled.

The study said estrogen was one of the hormones with the highest impact on breast cancer development.

Several cases of breast cancer were found to have estrogen receptors (ER), progesterone receptors (PR) or both. Of course, there is the case when there is no hormone receptor.

What does it mean that cancer has a hormone receptor?

The hormones are helping cancer grow.

This is why it’s important to test and see if the cancer cells have any of these receptors.

Paying attention and taking care of your health starts with looking at the chemicals used in the products you are using. A formaldehyde-free toilet paper can be a healthier option.
